Everybody has a dream. Most dreams, however, are left unfulfilled. In fact, according to statistics, approximately 9 out of 10 people in this world never see their dreams come true.
Personal dreams are thoughts, ideas and images one sees of him or herself showing who you could be one day. Dreams take people into a state of fantasy, but more often than not, people allow their dreams to remain in a state of fantasy. After all a dream is just a dream until you decide to do something about it.
The majority of people’s dreams are sitting on the back burner instead of functioning in the world of reality. People who place their dreams on the back burner are typically stuck and waiting for something to happen. That “something” they feel, is going to be the key to their success. That is not necessarily true. Most people just do not know what to do to make their dreams real. Unfortunately, because they are waiting for one of five things to happen before moving their dreams forward, they may be one of the 9 out of 10 who will not see their dreams true.
Those five things include the following:
1. Waiting for the kids to grow up
2. Waiting for retirement
3. Waiting for approval from others
4. Waiting until there is enough money
5. Waiting and hoping to overcome Fear
Waiting indefinitely, however, should not be an acceptable option because If you keep waiting for the right time, when the time comes you won’t be here.
There are those who believe regardless of age or other circumstances, it is never too late to live your dream. One example is that of a female baby boomer who had for years wanted to become a professional speaker. Unfortunately, both fear and money held her back. Finally, because of advice from her life coach, she made the decision to begin her new career as a motivational speaker as opposed to living the retirement life she first imagined. She worked diligently on trying to overcome her fear and began her journey toward success. As a result, she became a sought after inspirational and motivational speaker as she shared with others her life experiences and wisdom. Money was no longer an issue.
This article is meant to encourage you to boldly step into your future. It will also point out three first steps the female baby boomer took to make her dream come true. I recommend these three steps to anyone who has placed their dream on the back burner.
Decide to act. Make a decision to become totally committed to moving your dream to a state of reality. Boldly take your first step. As quoted many times, “you don’t have to be good to start, but you have to start to be good”.
Start a strategic plan of action. Determine steps needed to move to the next level. Prioritize steps needed to move forward. Determine projected dates of completion and try to stay on schedule as much as possible. If, however, you cannot stay on schedule due to unforeseen circumstances, take care of the circumstances and return to your job of making your dream come true. As soon as possible continue the plan of action with even more determination.
Build and activate a vision around your dream. A vision is that intuitive awakening on the inside that presents to your mind’s eye a snapshot of who you will be someday. Your vision takes you on a journey of self discovery which allows you to move forward. To begin building a vision around your dream, you must first see your vision clearly, believe in your vision from deep within and then diligently work your vision so your vision will work.
These steps are only three of 9 invaluable steps of self discovery discussed in the book entitled: Activate Your Inner Vision: Discover the New You, of which Charlotte Haymore is the author. Discovering the new you is a journey and process that will take time. But, becoming who you were intended to be is well worth the time and effort. Don’t give yourself permission to be one of the 9 out of 10 to not realize your dream. There is no better time to get started than now. Begin working on the three steps outlined in this article and watch, with great satisfaction, your dream become a successful reality.
